USPS gives Lockheed Martin $218 million scanner contract

The United States Postal Service awarded a six-year, $218 million contract to Lockheed Martin to support a new delivery confirmation system with300,000 hand-held scanners, called Mobile Data Collection Devices, along with communication cradles and in-office computer systems. The system willallow customers to verify the delivery status data of Express Mail, Priority Mail, parcels, international shipments, certified mail, and registered mail.
