U.S. based robotics companies shipped 6,275 robots in the first half of 1997, including 3,142 robots in the second quarter, according to the RoboticIndustries Association. The total value of the robots shipped was $547.7 million. The shipments exceeded the previous first-half record of 5,015 units, setin 1995. About 78,000 robots are now at work in U.S. factories.
