KMI Corporation reports record fiberoptic cable installation

KMI Corporation's recent report, 1997 Worldwide Summary of Fiberoptic Undersea Systems, notes that in 1996 plans were announced for a record237,000 route-km of fiberoptic cable to be installed within the next seven years. Installations for 1998 and 1999 will be over 100,000 route-km each year,twice the amount being installed this year. The market for undersea fiberoptic systems to be installed between 1997 and 2003 is anticipated to be $15.15billion, with $2.85 billion forecast for unrepeatered systems. As of the end of 1996 312,378 km of undersea cable had been installed worldwide.
