Schaeffer Magnetics to manufacture mirror adjuster for Lockheed Martin

Schaeffer Magnetics, Inc., has been awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin IR Imaging Systems, Inc., to manufacture the Schmidt Mirror Adjuster (SMA) forintegration into the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS). The AIRS will be a key facility instrument on NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS) scheduled to belaunched in the year 2000 to gather data which will help improve predictability of meteorological conditions. The Schmidt Mirror Adjuster will give AIRS thecapability to adjust its optical alignment to optimize performance over the five-year mission life.
