Amber infrared cameras aid weapon testing and evaluation

17 Jun 2002

The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) in China Lake, California, is utilizing several high-performance infrared cameras from Amber, a Raytheon Company, to conduct in-depth weapon and evaluation.

The use of Amber's Metric Infrared Imaging Cameras (MIRIC) in a trio of Metric Infrared Imaging Systems (MIRIS) developed by NAWCWD may uncover problems early in a weapon's development cycle, according to Amber. Funded by DoD's central test & Evaluation Investment Program, each MIRIS system consists of an MIRIC camera; a fixed focal length lens; and a video recording, annotation and IRIG synchronization unit that can store digital recordings of the images obtained.
