Pacemaker device in clinical trial

17 Jun 2002

The Spectranetics Corp. (Colorado Springs, CO) will begin a 318- patient randomized study of its laser-assisted pacemaker lead-removal device. The laser sheath is designed to thread over an implanted pacing lead and ablate through scar tissue, aiding in the extraction of the pacing lead. If the trial is successful, the company will file a premarket-approval application with the FDA and seek approval in Europe and Asia.
