Imaging Diagnostic trials to begin

17 Jun 2002

Imaging Diagnostic Systems (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) was scheduled to begin clinical studies of its CT Laser Mammography breast-imaging device on November 1. Under the direction of Dr. Stuart Kaplan, researchers at the Gertrude and Philip Strax Breast Cancer Detection Institute of Florida will compare Imaging Diagnostic's breast imager with conventional mammography and ultrasound techniques.

IDS uses proprietary (patent pending) CT-scanning geometry with ultrafast Ti:sapphire lasers and detectors to produce slice-plane images and cranial-caudal and lateral-medial image projections. According to the company, with this technology there is no ionizing radiation or compression of the breast and images are not impeded by dense breasts or silicone prosthesis.
