Elliot Scientific, KLASTECH offer first CW DPSS ruby laser

12 May 2009

12 May 2009 – Elliot Scientific is now taking advanced orders for the world's first Continuous Wave (CW) Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) laser that outputs at the significant 'ruby' wavelength of 694.3 nm, opening up new possibilities to researchers in Bio-Physics and DNA sequencing. The CRESCENDO, as the laser has been named, will be officially launched and demonstrated on the KLASTECH booth (# 359, Hall B1) at June's Laser World of Photonics Exhibition in Munich.

Initially available with powers of up to 150 mW, future designs offering up to 500 mW are under development. The current units output in single longitudinal mode with typically less than 1 MHz line width and a coherence length in excess of 100 m.

An exceptionally low noise figure of under 0.05% rms is allied with a near perfect Gaussian beam that has a pointing stability of < 10 µrad/°C, allowing the laser to meet the requirements of a range of applications that cannot be usually met by typical diode-based lasers. For example, bio-fluorescence, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, holography, interferometry, disc mastering, haematology, food sorting, spectroscopy and retinal imaging.

In addition, the single frequency laser is designed to be capable of output power modulation while still maintaining the original diode laser current. This extends laser lifetime and secures stable operating parameters but is only available on special request at present.

KLASTECH - Karpushko Laser Technologies GmbH, is a fresh and innovative company working at the leading edge of modern laser technology. Committed to continuously advancing their laser products through pioneering development and original design, KLASTECH's single frequency diode-pumped solid state lasers offer ultra-high second harmonic conversion efficiency due to Double Enhanced Intra-Cavity Frequency Conversion (DENICAFC) patented by noted laser scientist Fedor Karpushko.

Elliot Scientific also offer a number of other compact laser modules of various powers covering the key single wavelengths of 266, 488, 532 and 1064 nm and will add new ones as they are released by KLASTECH.
