Organizers are expecting this year's show at the Long Beach Convention Centre, US, to be a big hit, with more than 300 exhibitors, over 200 technical sessions and 2186 paper submissions.
Attendees braved the rain and early start time to secure their seats at this year's Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) located in Long Beach, CA, US. With 212 technical sessions and 2186 papers on offer, delegates can look forward to a five day diet of world-renowned, peer-reviewed conference programming, claim the organizers.
Monday's topics ranged from the 355 nm Nd:YAG laser trimming of iPod microelectronics through to the use of plastic fishing line as a THz waveguide.
Running alongside CLEO is the Quantum Electronics and Laser Science (QELS) program, which looks at the fundamental science, and the product-focused Photonic Applications Systems and Technologies (PhAST) conference.
Next up on the agenda is tonight's plenary session featuring DARPA's deputy director, Robert Lehney. Stay tuned to Optics.org, to find out what Lehney has to say on the topic of DARPA's investment in emerging optoelectronic technologies.
