New High-Performance Mini-Spectrometers

Hamamatsu Photonics has officially launched the WS Series Mini-Spectrometers, a cutting-edge solution designed to meet the diverse needs of UV to NIR spectroscopy applications. This innovative lineup features two distinct models: the C16449MA-01 and the C16449MA-02. The C16449MA-01 model boasts a broad spectral response range from 190 to 1100 nm, making it an excellent choice for general materials analysis, quality control, and scientific research. In contrast, the C16449MA-02 is tailored for high spectral resolution, particularly suited for advanced applications like Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), offering an impressive spectral resolution of 0.45 nm.

Both models incorporate a reflective grating optical system coupled with a high-sensitivity CMOS sensor, achieving performance levels comparable to traditional CCDs while maintaining a compact design. Measuring just 80 × 75 × 25 mm, the WS Series Mini-Spectrometers are lightweight and can be seamlessly integrated into various systems. Unlike many other spectrometers, these devices do not require an external power supply thanks to USB bus powering.

The WS Series Mini-Spectrometers are designed with flexibility in mind. The reflective grating system allows these devices to be custom-tailored to meet specific customer requirements, optimizing the spectral response range and resolution for targeted applications. As a result, users can address a range of analytical needs, including film thickness measurement for coatings and thin films, precise material characterization through LIBS analysis, accurate color measurement in product development, and high-precision gas analysis for environmental monitoring.

To further enhance user experience, Hamamatsu Photonics provides free evaluation software that facilitates the setting of measurement conditions, data acquisition, and graphing capabilities.
