Andor CB2 sCMOS Series by Oxford Instruments

23 Oct 2025

The Andor CB2 Series introduces a new generation of ultra-high performance scientific cameras, integrating advanced Sony global shutter CMOS sensors to deliver exceptional speed, low noise, and excellent thermal management. With spectral sensitivity from 200 to 1000 nm and resolutions ranging from 0.5 MP to 24.5 MP, the Andor CB2 series is engineered for both demanding research and industrial imaging applications.

Available in three versions, High Resolution, High Speed and UV, Andor CB2 supports a wide range of fields including adaptive optics, wavefront sensing, quantum computing, semiconductor inspection, lithography, developmental biology, ion flux imaging, and light-sheet microscopy.

- Andor CB2 High Resolution features a 24.5 MP back-illuminated sensor with 2x2 on-chip binning for enhanced speed, and long-exposure performance. It enables high-resolution imaging over a wide field of view, capturing exceptional detail without compromise.

- Andor CB2 High Speed offers rapid frame rates up to 1594 fps with three different sensor resolutions of 0.5, 1.7 and 7.1 MP with a pixel size of 4.5 or 9 µm, making it ideal for speed-critical experiments and dynamic imaging.

- Andor CB2 UV delivers exceptional spectral sensitivity in the 200-400 nm range, thanks to its back-illuminated structure and UV-optimised optical components to ensure high transmission of UV light. Andor CB2 UV achieves > 50% quantum efficiency at 300 nm and frame rates up to 194 fps.

Andor CB2’s advanced internal liquid cooling enables sensor temperatures down to -20 °C, minimizing dark current to 0.00014e-/p/s, and even to -40°C for extremely long integration times in light-starved conditions. Andor CB2 can operate in extreme temperature environments, from -40°C to +50°C. The readout noise is kept to a minimum (down to 1.4 e-). Global shutter ensures distortion-free imaging, especially at high speeds. 2x2 on-chip binning enables quadrupling the pixel area without increasing the number of readouts, improving signal-to-noise ratios and maximum achievable frame rates. Finally the camera supports high data outputs with high-speed data interface options: CoaXPress provides stable, low latency performance and GigE offers a user-friendly interface over longer distances. Andor CB2 supports GigE Vision and is compliant with GenICam standards.

Andor CB2 packages a large area sensor, thermoelectric and liquid cooling and multiple connectivity options within a space efficient design, keeping the overall size of the camera to a minimum (LxWxH (in mm) : 183.7 (CXP) - 180.4 (GigE) x93 x 77.5)  for a weight of 1.3 kg.

The Andor CB2 Series is a versatile solution for professionals seeking sensitivity, speed, and reliability for advanced imaging.
