ProMetric® I-SC: Integrated Imaging Colorimeter and Spectrometer

Measuring light-emitting devices and displays for design and quality control relies on accurate, scientific measurements of brightness (luminance), color (chromaticity), and other visual qualities. Guided by the principles of CIE (International Commission on Illumination), the sciences of photometry and colorimetry are applied by machines to obtain measurement values of light according to human visual perception. All imaging systems used for photometric and colorimetric measurement (called imaging photometers and imaging colorimeters) must be calibrated for alignment with CIE to ensure accurate measurement values. This requires that a spectral measurement of a light-emitting device be obtained using a separate, highly accurate spot measurement device such as a spectroradiometer, providing a calibration reference can be used to adjust the imaging system’s response to produce accurate measurements.

The problem is that the process of calibrating an imaging colorimeter now requires two pieces of equipment, as well as positioning and then exchanging one piece of equipment (the spectroradiometer) with another (the imaging colorimeter) each time a calibration is needed (as often as devices or device outputs change). This two-step process is time consuming and could potentially introduce error due to manual transfer and application of spectral data to the imaging system, or manual positioning of each piece of equipment, which must be aligned to the same measurement point on a device.

Radiant Vision Systems has introduced a new solution to address these issues—the ProMetric® I-SC Solution, which combines two pieces of equipment into a single solution with a single measurement position. The ProMetric I-SC combines the functions of Radiant’s enhanced ProMetric I Imaging Colorimeter with a high-end spectrometer to provide a single platform for spectral data capture and accurate, repeatable color measurement across devices, testing environments, and over time.
