Designed to transmit infrared (IR) wavelengths and to reflect bands below that, Cold Mirrors are dielectrically coated onto a glass substrate to reflect visible light. Because of this dielectric coating (which can be controlled for different AOIs – the most common of which is 45°), Cold Mirrors have a sharp cut on between IR and visible spectrums and are most commonly used in projection systems to help alleviate heat damage/
