RUGGEDIZED - EOs’ NEW TECHSPEC® Cr Lenses for applications involving shocks & vibrations

Imaging lenses used in many industrial machine vision applications have special requirements beyond those of standard imaging lenses and have to reliably work in specific and demanding environments, which often involve vibrations and shocks.

In order to address these specific challenges and to offer robust lenses that can meet these requirements, Edmund Optics^® developed a new cutting-edge version of its C Series lenses, which is stability ruggedized: The new TECHSPEC^® Cr Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses with C-Mount where Cr stands for “compact ruggedized”.

The innovative ruggedization protects the lens from damage while maintaining optical pointing and positioning after shock and vibration. Decenters of the individual optical elements in the imaging lens of tens of microns are enough to significantly affect the pointing of a lens. In EOs newly developed ruggedized lenses all individual lens elements are glued in place to prevent these decenters and to eliminate object shift on the image. Even after heavy shock and vibration; if the center of the object maps onto the center pixel, it will always map to that same center pixel. In addition, these high quality lenses feature robust mechanics with a simplified focus and stainless steel locking C-Mount clamp and the iris is replaced by a fixed aperture stop without any moving parts.

EO’s cutting-edge TECHSPEC^® Cr Series Fixed Focal Length Lenses are ideal for calibrated imaging systems such as measurement and gauging systems, 3D stereo vision, robotics and sensing, autonomous vehicles and object tracking, making even difficult applications a success. Edmund Optics^® offers the Cr Series with focal lengths from 6 mm to 25 mm and f/#s from 1,4 to 16. The lenses can be used up to 2/3” sensor format (1/1,8” for 6 mm focal length) and the C-Mount thread fits to all industrial C-Mount cameras.
