Vacuum Ultraviolet and UHV Spectrometers

21 Oct 2010

At FLASH, the Free Electron Laser experiment at DESY Germany, the McPherson, Inc. ultra high vacuum (UHV) grazing incidence spectrometer Model 310/248 assisted in analysis of the 2.3 to 4.4 nanometer water window (a region transparent to light). Carbon atoms are very opaque in these x-ray regions and water is transparent creating an opportunity to research biological samples. Numerous scientific disciplines as physics, chemistry, biology, geophysics and medical diagnostics will benefit.

McPherson instruments are essential in many and related research endeavors. Experimental fusion reactors around the world employ McPherson spectrometers and some are actively involved in the ITER Project via ASDEX Upgrade.

McPherson, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA USA) manufactures a variety of instruments that measure and tune specific wavelengths of light for many disciplines of spectroscopy. The company is proud of its ongoing role in building and delivering instrumentation to domestic and international laboratories for research in photonics. For more information about our instruments, and custom manufacturing capabilities to suit your specific needs, visit McPhersonInc.com or call 1-978-256-4512 today.
