21 Jan 2009 Lasermet's new state-of-the-art calibration laboratories are the only UK test house (other than the NPL) to be accredited by UKAS for testing laser and LED products to the laser safety standards Lasermet's high level of expertise, traceability and rigorous practice in meeting CE and FDA calibration requirements has now been extended to include testing of all non-laser optical sources to EN 62471 in preparation for the new EU Physical Agents Directive. Plans are also well underway to include the calibration of laser power meters within the scope of UKAS accreditation.
Technical Director Robert Wells, Manager of Lasermet test and calibration laboratories since 2003, explains: “The next few months will see many changes as organisations gear up to meet the EU requirements given in the Physical Agents Directive (Artificial Optical Radiation), due to come into force in April 2010. Our new facilities will be available to meet the demand for additional testing services in this area.” |
