04 May 2007 With unmatched broad tuning (~2.4-4.7µm), high average power (>400mW at 350kHz), high peak power (>100W), hands-free operation and shoebox size, Firefly-IR provides new capabilities for molecular spectroscopy, sensing and imaging applications. Firefly-IR’s wide tunability means users can access the absorption features of many different molecular species with a single unit. In addition its high output power – in a near-diffraction-limited beam – affords users higher detection sensitivity, and greater stand-off distances in remote sensing/ imaging applications. Firefly’s high pulse repetition rate also allows rapid data acquisition, and powerful video-rate imaging capability. Further, Firefly-IR’s novel intracavity OPO design, with integrated pump laser, allows for an extremely rugged and compact optical head, ideally suited to OEM, space-constrained, or portable use.
Firefly-IR’s unique characteristics make it highly appealing for a variety of applications, including: the spectroscopy and detection of greenhouse gases and hydrocarbons; engine emissions reduction; oil exploration; medical diagnostics (such as p.p.m. breath monitoring); mid-IR spectroscopy; LIDAR; eye-safe illumination and infrared countermeasures. Customization of Firefly-IR’s optical performance, software interface and level of automation - including the addition of Instrument Control by Ethernet (ICE) functionality – is also available.
