26 Jan 2007 Scitec Instruments has introduced a new 4 watt wire wound IR source suitable for use in laboratory or field instrumentation due to its long life and stable properties. The IR-30 is a coil wound, supported broadband IR source mounted on a TO-5 header. At steady state the coiled filament operates at ~950 C when powered with 4 watts (2.5 V, 1.6 amps).
The IR-30 can be pulsed up to 1 Hz with a higher power input. When operated at 1 Hz, 50% duty cycle with 7.1 watts (3.5 V) the output is a well defined saw tooth with ~34% modulation depth.
Emissivity of the emitter is ~0.75 and it has an expected lifetime of ~25,000 hours. Active area is 1.8 mm x 1.8 mm.
