23 Mar 2006 Our Standard Cleaving Knife 5290 is the ideal accessory for test connectors and fiber optic installation cases. Shaped like a ball-point pen, it handles well and is effective and easy to use. To disconnect/break optical fibers, simply scratch the glass surface (the core for fibers with plastic cladding or the cladding for quartz/quartz fiber). By pulling on the fiber, an axial force is applied to the scratched location, and the fiber will break. This allows a quick and cost-effective fiber end surface preparation, which is sufficient for many applications. This tool is also frequently used in medical technology. |
