QC laser reduces system weight for infrared countermeasure (IRCM) applications.
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Daylight Defense™, LLC (Daylight), a wholly owned subsidiary of Daylight Solutions, Inc., today announced the successful environmental testing of its Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) based JammIR™ Series B.4 laser system for military and aerospace applications. The new “Solaris™” system represents the 4th generation in Daylight’s Series B family of multi-Watt, multi-wavelength laser system products.
By leveraging their prior investments in commercial laser modules, Daylight can offer military-grade products such as the Solaris™ laser system at low cost. Earlier generations of the Series B family had been demonstrated to meet the U.S. military’s requirements for environmental ruggedization and reliability. In addition to completing flight tests aboard several helicopter platforms, Daylight’s QCL-based systems have successfully passed the U.S. Army’s reliability characterization test (RCT), demonstrating the high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of these products.
The Solaris™ laser was designed to reduce system weight, and improve the product’s manufacturability. Designed to integrate with direct coupled pointer/tracker assemblies, Solaris™ takes advantage of the broad transmission characteristics of direct coupled pointer/trackers. By doing so, it can provide more efficient jamming lines that are not possible with traditional chalcogenide fiber coupled pointer/trackers. The design enhancements of Solaris™ provide significant increases in capability, while maintaining the integrity of the product family’s high TRL.
“We are pleased that the Solaris™ laser system has performed so well during these tests,” said Daylight Defense’s CEO, Dr. Timothy Day. “The design maturity of this product line has been validated through these tests, and gives us high confidence that this offers a low risk solution for our customers, and will provide significant capabilities and value to the warfighter.”
