TOPTICA focuses on Biophotonics, Quantum Optics, Terahertz and Test & Measurement at LASER 2011

Date Announced: 16 May 2011

At the forthcoming LASER exhibition, TOPTICA Photonics will display a number of innovative solutions with special focus on biophotonics, quantum optics, terahertz and test & measurement.

Biophotonics: Multi-Color & Multi-Photon
A highlight will be the new multi-laser engine iChrome MLE, which efficiently combines up to four different wavelengths in one single-mode fiber. This system was specially developed for multi-color applications like fluorescence microscopy and cytometry.

Furthermore, TOPTICA presents several new wavelengths and powers in the blue/green spectral range for the iBeam smart, most notably the first direct green wavelength (515 nm, 50 mW).

The latest addition to this product range is the new iBeam smart PT, a pigtailed diode laser featuring highest output powers and best long-term stability after a single-mode fiber.

The iChrome MLE, the iBeam smart and the iBeam smart PT all feature expedient technologies, such as SKILL (Speckle KILLer), FINE (Feedback Induced Noise Eraser) and COOLDC (Dura-Calibrated Constant Optical Output Level) or COOLAC (Constant Optical Output Level with Auto-Calibration feature).

For multiphoton microscopy TOPTICA presents three solutions: the FemtoFiber pro NIR, the compact FemtoFErb 780 nm, and in cooperation with BioPhotonic Solutions, Inc. a compact setup for shaping and compression of ultrashort pulses.

TOPTICA’s femtosecond fiber laser FemtoFiber pro SCIR along with the femtoFitTM demonstrate how to correct for the dispersion caused by optical elements in a microscope. Pulses with less than 10 fs are thus generated directly at the sample.

Quantum Optics: Rb-MOT and a 2 Watt laser for Na-cooling
A magneto-optical trap (MOT) with Rubidium atoms will be presented at the booth. The Rubidium atoms are cooled with a fiber coupled TA pro 780 and as hyperfine repumping laser a fiber coupled DL pro is used.

TOPTICA’s DigiLock – a versatile, digital controller with high bandwidth – and a compact module for saturation spectroscopy (CoSy) are used forstabilization of the DL pro. The cooling-laser is stabilized with a High Finesse wavelength meter.

Another highlight of TOPTICA’s broad selection of scientific diode lasers is a narrow-band continuous-wave system with 2 Watt output power at 589 nm. This system comes in the successful pro design and is perfectly suited for laser cooling and Bose Einstein condensation of Sodium atoms.

Terahertz: Three approaches for THz generation
For THz generation, TOPTICA presents three different technologies: timedomain and frequency-domain setups for THz spectroscopy, as well as high-power electronic systems for THz imaging.

Two compact and cost efficient laser sources running at 1.5 μm will be on display: the TeraBeam, a two-color cw-laser with fiber coupled antenna modules and a fiber based femtosecond laser, the FemtoFErb. The femtosecond laser is ideally suited for time-resolved THz spectroscopy. A compact time-domain THz system will be displayed at the booth in cooperation with Zomega Terahertz Corp.

In cooperation with the manufacturer Synview GmbH, the THz portfolio will be completed by an all-electronic source for 3D millimeter-wave imaging.

Test & Measurement: Power and Coherence
For applications in laser-based metrology, TOPTICA presents the BlueMode, a diode laser with high output power and a novel scheme for coherence stabilization. An active control guarantees permanent singlefrequency operation and opens new possibilities in interferometry/holography, quantum cryptography or Raman spectroscopy. The BlueMode is now available at 405 nm, 445 nm and 488 nm with an output power of up to 50 mW.

TOPTICA will present these and other systems live at booth B1.117. Visit the TOPTICA homepage for further preliminary information: www.toptica.com/laser_2011.htm.
