Thorlabs Adds Textured Broadband Antireflective Windows to Its Portfolio

Date Announced: 16 Aug 2022

Textured AR Window

Newton, NJ – August 15, 2022 – Thorlabs is pleased to announce the release of a new line of broadband antireflective windows based on its proprietary textured surface technology. The availability of high-transmission and low reflectance optical windows is critical for next generation laser and sensing applications.

These new textured broadband antireflective windows are sub-wavelength nanostructures created on the surface of a UV fused silica substrate to provide broadband antireflection effects for many applications. The windows exhibit high transmission (>= 98.0%) and low reflection (<0.25%/surface) over a broad wavelength range from UV to NIR (400 nm to 1100 nm). For laser applications, these optics provide high optical performance, high laser-damage resistance (>30 J/cm2), and low surface absorption, leading to long-term beam stability and robustness.

Ryan Priore, Technology Manager for Thorlabs’ South-Carolina-based optics group, said, “Thorlabs has a long history of manufacturing many types of AR-coated windows; we are excited to have developed a new in-house process for manufacturing high-quality textured antireflective products that will enable new applications not previously possible with traditional antireflective thin film coatings.”

Textured AR Window

The initial textured window catalog offering (Item # W41010T1) consists of a Ø1", 1.0 mm thick textured window on a UV fused silica substrate, with plans to release additional diameters and substrate thicknesses in the coming months. Requests for custom substrates or window thicknesses are welcome.
