II-VI and Edmund Optics collaborate to make IR optics more accessible

Date Announced: 13 Feb 2019

Mainz, Germany -- Edmund Optics (EO), the premier provider of optical components, has announced a collaboration with II-VI Incorporated to provide immediate delivery of Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) optical components.

Zinc selenide (ZnSe) plano-convex (PCX) lenses, Zinc selenide (ZnSe) aspheric Lenses, CO2 beam expanders, and lens stress analyzers are now available.

The partners state, "This collaboration makes it easier than ever before to purchase optical components for infrared applications throughout the design, prototyping, and production project cycles."

Techspec zinc selenide (ZnSe) plano-convex (PCX) lenses are designed by EO and manufactured by II-VI out of premier grade ZnSe material with < 0.0005 cm-1 bulk absorption at 10.6 µm. They are available uncoated or coated with broadband anti-reflection coatings for 8-12 µm or 3-12 µm. Their irregularity of <λ/20 at 10.6 µm and surface roughness of <50Å makes them ideal for precision IR applications.

Similarly, the Techspec zinc selenide (ZnSe) aspheric lenses are also designed by EO and manufactured from the same premier grade ZnSe. While offering the same surface specifications and 8-12 µm AR coating option as the ZnSe PCX Lenses, the Techspec zinc selenide (ZnSe) aspheric lenses feature diffraction-limited performance for minimum focused spot sizes.

The CO2 beam expanders are constructed from more premier grade ZnSe optical elements for collimating and improving the energy distribution of high power CO2 laser beams at 10.6 µm. The beam expanders feature minimized beam deviation and AR coatings that result in 99.4 % transmission and < 0.1 % absorbance per surface at 10.6 µm.

The final new II-VI products offered by EO are lens stress analyzers, which utilize cross polarization to identify mechanical stress, thermal stress, and contamination. They are available in either a portable, clip-on design or a bench-top model.
