In order to achieve optimal laser power measurement results with thermopile detectors, the influence of the thermal environment has to be considered. In our latest white paper we describe the common error sources and suggest possible solutions to avoid their interference with the laser power measurement.
In general, thermopile detectors convert a heat input into a voltage signal. This physical effect is used to measure laser power, where the heat input is provided by the incoming laser radiation. However, any thermal effect of the environment will also influence the reading of the detector. Depending on the exact type of detector such an error can amount up to several percent.
Here we explain the two most important sources of error, rate their relevance for specific measurements and suggest how to compensate for them. This know-how will help you to understand your setup better and to yield even more accurate measurement results!
