Surf Telecoms raises its game to achieve CAS(T) standard

Date Announced: 02 Mar 2016

Surf Telecoms, Bristol, UK, a provider of optical network services, announced today that it has achieved the secure government-approved network certification known as CAS(T), which confirms the secure provision of its data services across the country against the growing threats posed by cyber criminals.

Surf Telecoms’ CAS(T) certification – which stands for CESG Assured Services (Telecommunications) – follows a major investment program by the company and a rigorous audit process, in which many aspects of the company’s network and practices were scrutinised, revised and tested. Achieving the CAS(T) standard is the one of the milestones in Surf Telecoms’ transition towards full Public Services Network (PSN) compliance.

Surf is now offering public sector and government organisations and other service providers certified assurance of security for the management of traffic passing through its optical network. The requirements for this increased assurance are set by the CESG (Communications-Electronics Security Group), which is the UK government’s Information Security arm of GCHQ, and the National Technical Authority for Information Assurance within the UK.

Martin Eddlestone Senior Project Manager, Sky Network Services at BSkyB, a Surf Telecoms services customer, said, “As a major broadcaster, network and communications security is a primary concern of BskyB and we are reassured to be in a long-term business partnership with a service provider that meets the stringent CAS(T) requirements. Surf Telecoms’ recent certification means that we can rely on a secure foundation for our business development.”

Kevan Scott Manager at Surf Telecoms said, “The CAS(T) certification demonstrates the reliability of our network. This achievement is a measure of the substantial investment we have made in people, processes and infrastructure in order to future-proof our offering and increase our business in the significant public sector market.”

The Surf Telecoms certification is expected not only to boost business but will also offer new and existing customers a more robust and secure network. It will help maximise efficiencies and deliver better value for money for any organisation benefiting from Surf Telecoms’ connectivity and collocation services.
