New metrology capability at Rochester firm.
Rochester, NY (July 22, 2014) – Empire Precision Plastics, a manufacturer of precision opaque and optical plastic injection molded parts, announced the addition of a multisensory dimensional measuring system to its optical metrology lab. New optical metrology capabilities improve Empire’s ability to test precision plastic optics.
The new system, a SmartScope Flash 200 from Optical Gaging Products, will allow Empire to measure critical optical dimensions quickly and to tight tolerances, offering its customers further quality assurance. The machine features a high-quality zoom lens, built-in illumination, and multisensory versatility including video, touch probe and laser capabilities.
“Our customers rely on our data being accurate; it has to be right,” Empire Quality Engineer Chuck Kirchhoff said. “We’re proud of our capabilities and the work we do in exceeding our customers’ expectations.”
The new machine joins an already impressive optical metrology department, including an OGP Optical Comparator with a Telecentric lens system; a Zeiss Eclipse 2840 Coordinate Measurement Machine with Calypso software, scanning technology and automatic probe change; and an OGP SmartScope Flash 300; as well as various standard open plate inspection tools.
This investment is one of many made by Empire Precision since the company’s expansion into plastic optics in 2012.
“Pair the latest technology with a team of metrologists and quality engineers with over 65 years of experience, and Empire Precision Plastics gives its customers the best in part verification and data,” Kirchhoff noted.
