VI Systems awarded US patent for its 40G VCSEL technology

Date Announced: 23 Jul 2014

High-speed emitter developed by German component maker.

BERLIN, Germany, July 23, 2014 - VI Systems GmbH announces today that the allowed patent, entitled “Optoelectronic Device with a Wide Bandgap and Method of Making Same” which is filed under patent number US 20130092896 A1 is essential to protect VIS’ proprietary concept of ultrahigh-speed vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL).

The invention pertains to semiconductor light emitting devices for visible and infra-red spectral ranges. Therefore it can also be applied to light emitting diodes (LED) targeting the bright red, orange, yellow, or green spectral ranges.

For optical data communication VI Systems’ offers engineering samples of their 40 Gbit/s VCSEL at 850nm wavelength as bare die chips (part number V40-850C) or as fiber coupled test modules. The modules are available in a package with V-connector but without a VCSEL driver chip (part number V40-850M) or with a built-in 40 Gbit/s VCSEL driver and adaptor board for differential signal input through standard RF connectors (part number R40-850).
