Materion Technology Advances Projection Display

Date Announced: 17 Jun 2014

Dichroic filter said to improve brightness performance in high-power laser projectors.

WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Materion Precision Optics, a Materion Corporation (MTRN) business, has developed a display component that will significantly advance image projection. The new polarized dichroic filter improves brightness performance in high-power laser and hybrid projectors used in business, education, home theater and cinema markets.

“The new dichroic filter joins our family of innovative products for projection display applications,” commented Robert Naranjo, President of Materion Precision Optics. “It provides a high-tech solution to the industry need for efficient optical function within a compact structure and leverages our decades of materials and manufacturing expertise.”

The design of the dichroic filter creates a compact light path that allows it to achieve excellent transmittance which is of critical importance for projection display efficiency. It consists of an optimized coating design that focuses blue laser light sources, and has very steep cut-on and cut-off slopes. This is essential to achieving enhanced color quality in projection display systems.

In addition to the polarized dichroic filter, Materion produces a variety of custom optical filters and components to meet the needs of the projection display industry.

Materion Precision Optics, with manufacturing facilities in North America and Asia, is a leading global manufacturer of precision thin film coatings, optical filters and opto-mechanical systems.

Materion Corporation is headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. The Company, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, supplies highly engineered advanced materials to global markets.
