New GM and VP of regulatory affairs start work at dental laser specialist.
BIOLASE, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIOL), the world's leading dental laser manufacturer and distributor, announced today two key appointments to its senior management team.
Samir Chowdhury, Ph.D., an accomplished senior operations executive, has been appointed General Manager. Dr. Chowdhury will primarily oversee the Company's new product development and engineering efforts as well as assist in developing strategic business plans, creating new lines of business, marketing current leading-edge technologies and establishing new revenue streams.
Previously, Dr. Chowdhury held the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer positions at Gamma Medica, Inc., where he managed the Clinical, Pre-Clinical, and Industrial/Space Imaging operations, including sales, marketing, mergers and acquisitions, production, supply chain, engineering, and distribution. Within six years, Gamma Medica's sales grew by five-hundred percent and it generated multi-million dollar revenue.
Prior experience includes Senior Principal Research Scientist at Siemens Molecular Imaging and Phillips Medical where he worked in the research and development of new products, eight of which were awarded patents that were introduced throughout global markets. Dr. Chowdhury graduated from the University of Michigan, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and received a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Akron.
Colleen Boswell, a senior executive with experience in quality and regulatory compliance in high growth medical device companies, has been appointed Vice President, Regulatory Affairs. Ms. Boswell will oversee and execute regulatory compliance initiatives for the Company, providing oversight for all U.S. and international regulatory matters, including filings and interactions with regulatory authorities.
Before coming to BIOLASE, Ms. Boswell worked at Sybron Dental Specialties, Inc., a Danaher company, rising throughout her career there to Vice President, Regulatory Affairs. Previously, she worked at Alpha Therapeutic Corporation in the Biological Division. She began her career at the Baxter Healthcare Corporation, Edwards CVS Division. Ms. Boswell graduated from the University of California, Irvine, with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.
