Aegis Lightwave Names Chris Koeppen as General Manager

Date Announced: 06 Aug 2012

Physics PhD replaces Jeffrey Farmer at II-VI subsidiary.

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aegis Lightwave, a subsidiary of II-VI Incorporated (IIVI), a leading supplier of optical channel monitors for fiber-optic communications and, through its subsidiary AOFR, a leading supplier of fused fiber devices including laser combiners, has named Chris Koeppen as its General Manager.

Dr. Koeppen has over fifteen years of experience in the fiber-optics industry ranging from systems to components. He will oversee all aspects of the business at the two Aegis locations in the U.S., namely Woburn, MA and Flemington, NJ, as well as at its subsidiary AOFR Pty Ltd in Canberra, Australia. Peter Jacob, Managing Director of AOFR will report to Dr. Koeppen.

“I am delighted to lead an outstanding team of professionals at Aegis and AOFR as we continue to deliver new products for next generation high-speed optical networks and industrial fiber lasers,” said Dr. Koeppen. “Aegis and AOFR are already recognized as market leaders and I look forward to continue to build on this tradition of excellence.”

In his new role, Dr. Koeppen succeeds Jeffrey Farmer who served as CEO and General Manager of Aegis for the past six years. “We are happy to have Chris lead the company through a new wave of product innovation and market growth,” said Mr. Farmer, who will remain within Aegis’ parent company, II-VI Incorporated, in a new leadership role.

Dr. Koeppen joined Aegis Lightwave in 2007 as part of the acquisition of CardinalPoint Optics where Dr. Koeppen was founder and CEO. Dr. Koeppen was responsible for managing Aegis products and operations in New Jersey. Previously, Dr. Koeppen held senior leadership positions in ROADM-based optical networking companies, serving as VP of Engineering at Meriton Networks, VP of Engineering and Operations at Mahi Networks, and Director of Optical Product Realization at Photuris. Earlier in his career, at Lucent Technologies, he led the commercialization of one of the industry’s first optical channel monitors. Dr. Koeppen received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an AT&T Bell Laboratories Scholar, and B.S. degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University.
