CLEO Announces New Dates for 2013 Conference

Date Announced: 25 Apr 2012

Conference moves to June 9–14, 2013 in San Jose.

WASHINGTON, April 25—The organizers of the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) today announced new dates for CLEO: 2013, which will now take place in San Jose, Calif., USA. The conference and expo will be moved to June 9 – 14, 2013, due to the decision by Messe Munich, organizers for Laser: World of Photonics, to move the dates for their 2013 event. The change in CLEO: 2013 dates will provide attendees and exhibitors more time between the two industry shows.

“This change will offer the most benefit to attendees, exhibitors and the optics and photonics community as a whole, while maintaining CLEO’s status as the premier technical conference and exposition in the field of laser science,” said Elizabeth Rogan, CEO of the Optical Society (OSA), the managing sponsor of the event.

Kate Kirby, Executive Officer of the American Physical Society (APS), another co-sponsor of CLEO, continued: “Our top priority in planning CLEO is to ensure that we provide an outstanding technical program, selecting dates for the meeting that do not pose a conflict for our many attendees from various communities.”

CLEO: 2012 will take place this year May 6 – 11, in San Jose, featuring more than 1,800 technical presentations ranging from basic research to industry applications. This year’s expo showcases 300 participating companies from around the world and includes a new Japan Pavilion, as well as the new Technology Playground – a roundup of hands-on production demonstrations from select exhibitors designed to foster one-on-one interaction between companies and attendees.

CLEO’s Market Focus program provides market trends and outlook in areas like biophotonics, energy, and manufacturing, and the popular Tech Transfer program returns featuring entrepreneurs and researchers from start-ups, major universities, businesses and national laboratories presenting new technologies that are ready and available for commercialization.

“Silicon Valley is home to a large number of photonics industry companies, academic institutions and individuals working in our field, so we’re excited to return to San Jose again in 2013,” said Rich Linke, Executive Director of IEEE Photonics Society, a CLEO co-sponsor.
