Power Technology Expands US Laser Manufacturing Capabilities in Response to Flooding in Thailand

Date Announced: 28 Oct 2011

Company adds resources and inventories in response to Thailand flooding.

LITTLE ROCK, AR, October 28, 2011– Power Technology, Inc. (PTI), a leading laser manufacturer, announced today that it is expanding its US production capabilities for laser diode modules in direct response to the Thailand flooding. PTI plans to add experienced design engineers and production personnel. In addition, laser diode inventories have been expanded to support affected customers.

Unknown to many customers, a large percentage of laser diode modules and diode pumped solid state lasers are manufactured in Bangkok, Thailand by contract manufacturers. Those manufacturers are now reporting 3.5 feet of water in their factories. The Thai Prime Minister projects that the flood waters will not recede for 6 weeks. Disruptions in the supply chain are partially due to the fact that up to 650,000 employees can’t make it to work.

Walter Burgess, VP of Sales and Engineering, remarked “PTI is a vertically integrated US based manufacturer producing the highest quality custom lasers over our entire history with minimal risk of a supply chain interruption, the kind of which is now happening in Thailand”. Mr. Burgess continued, “If your supply chain is being negatively affected by the natural disaster in and around Bangkok, or you anticipate such an impact, PTI can help you meet your production demands today and into the future”. Mr. Burgess then offered, “If you are using contract manufacturers or you are unsure of where your lasers are being manufactured, call us and we can help you resolve those and other supply chain disruption issues.”

For the last 40 years, PTI’s laser designs have supported Fortune 500 and other companies in the biomedical, semiconductor, industrial, defense & security markets and machine vision markets. Those applications include laser modules designed to meet our customer’s high-end OEM Analytical and General Scientific laser application needs including Microscopy, Spectroscopy, Flow Cytometry, Interferometry and Trace-Gas Sensing.
