Ouster raises $190M in public stock offering

San Francisco-based lidar firm boosts balance sheet as it rolls out ‘Rev8’ color lidar sensor.

Ouster, the Nasdaq-listed manufacturer of lidar sensor units used across a broad range of applications, has raised net proceeds of just under $192 million in a public offering of stock.

At $55.22 per share, the offering took advantage of a stock price that has more than doubled in value since the start of 2026, and will boost the San Francisco firm’s balance sheet as it looks to roll out its recently launched “Rev8” technology - described as the world’s first lidar sensors to feature native color capture.

According to Ouster’s most recent set of financial results, the company held cash and short-term liquid assets of around $175 million as of March 31, after posting an operating loss of $19 million on sales revenues of $49 million in the first three months of 2026.

However, that sales figure represented a sharp rise year-on-year, with company CEO Angus Pacala hailing Rev8 as a “paradigm shift” in AI perception that would use Fujifilm-developed technology to combine native color and perception across the firm’s entire product portfolio.

Since announcing the availability of the Rev8 sensor, Ouster has announced collaborations with the likes of Nvidia for autonomous vehicle development, Argus Interception for counter-drone operations, and Gecko Robotics to help navigate complex industrial environments and create high-fidelity digital twins of critical assets.

In May the lidar company revealed that the Rev8 family of digital lidar sensors feature embedded color science from Japan’s Fujifilm, acknowledged as a global leader in the field.

“Beginning with the early prototyping phase, Ouster was able to leverage Fujifilm’s extensive catalog of organic color filters, typically reserved for the semiconductor industry,” Ouster announced.

“This strategic access enabled the direct integration of premium materials into Ouster’s digital lidar architecture, ensuring high-performance color sensing was baked into the hardware from the earliest stages of development.”

‘Color expertise at the silicon level’

The thinking behind that collaboration is to solve a long-standing problem in AI perception that has until now relied on fusing data from completely different types of sensors to enable automated environmental perception - typically requiring significant computing power to combine and render lidar, radar, and camera data in a meaningful way.

“Rev8 unifies color and depth in a single sensor, where data is captured and processed on a single ASIC with shared timing, optics, and calibration,” points out Ouster. “Customers can reduce system complexity by consolidating their perception stack.

“This approach lowers hardware overhead, simplifies mechanical and electrical integration, and removes the need for time-intensive calibration development between cameras and lidar.”

Commenting in mid-May, Ouster optical engineer Martin Millischer added: “Our collaboration with Fujifilm enabled us to bridge the gap between 3D sensing and high-fidelity imaging through pure physics.

“By integrating their legendary color expertise at the silicon level, we’ve created a sensor that captures the world exactly as it is: spatially accurate and chromatically rich.

“For the first time, companies can leverage the foundational depth and color data needed to build the next generation of physical AI systems.”
