Apple's iPhone X
OLED display production at Samsung is believed to be in a lull currently, in part because Apple - both a rival and a key customer of the Korean electronics giant - has halted orders of the technology for the screens in its high-end iPhone X model. Paradoxically, it is thought that sales of the iPhone X are struggling because of the hefty $1000 price tag they command - a price that to some extent reflects the fact that only Samsung has proved capable of making OLED displays to Apple's exacting demands, and so commands sole-supplier status. Coherent is hoping that other OLED providers will step up to the plate, and that Samsung goes ahead with its "A5" OLED fab - either of which should stimulate demand for its lasers. Image: Apple.
