Wafer production
The giant Newton Aycliffe fab, built by Fujitsu to make silicon DRAM memory chips, has since been used to produce gallium arsenide RF devices and - most recently - infrared lasers. If Kaiam's acquisition goes according to plan, that may extend to photonic integrated circuits based on indium phosphide in the near future.
