Much like perovskites, quantum-dot materials could be used to enhance the efficiency of otherwise-standard silicon solar cells - although whether that advantage can be commercialized successfully will depend largely on the incremental cost of producing the novel material in a hybrid-cell arrangement and at volume scale. Quantum-dot structures have found success in the TV market, where they provide more vivid colors, in a similar way to organic LED screens, but are easier to produce than OLEDs. Photo: Q Cells. |
