Storm Jake crossing the UK in March (at top left of image) - as seen by the newly launched Sentinel-3A satellite. The instruments on board the payload include the Ocean and Land Colour Instrument (OLCI), a five-camera spectrometer able to collect 21 programmable spectral bands; and the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR), providing a suite of visible and infrared radiance measurements. CCD sensors from e2v provide the "eyes" of the OCLI kit. The future METimage satellites will be based around new CMOS imaging sensors developed by e2v to provide a wider spectral range. Photo: ESA. |
