ALMA array
Rather than the more conventional single very large dish, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) produces high-resolution images using a network of radio antennae. Signals received by the antennae are combined by an interferometer to build up a detailed image - a technique that relies on a high-precision clock. Credit: ALMA.
