With rapid slewing capability and a wide field of view, the deep-UV detecting "ULTRASAT" telescope should be able to pinpoint electromagnetic radiation generated shortly after cosmic collisions that cause gravitational waves to be felt by giant interferometers on Earth. Astronomers will then be able to follow-up these so-called "hot transient" events with ground-based telescopes operating in the optical and infrared spectral regions. Image: Elbit Systems. |
