MethaneSAT: set to launch in 2022
An artist's impression of the MethaneSAT satellite, which is now moving into the production phase at Ball Aerospace, and is scheduled for launch as soon as 2022. The SWIR spectrometer on board the craft is being designed to complement other orbiting methane detectors including ESA's TROPOMI, and Japan's GOSAT, by providing weekly reports on small but significant emissions of the potent greenhouse gas.
