Ice monitoring with space lasers
NASA’s Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2), uses three pairs of 532nm laser beams to measure the changing height of Earth's ice, as well as forest canopies and other key environmental features. It has just completed a year since launch, with more than a trillion pulses counted across the beams. Image: NASA. Credits: NASA
