Jenoptik wins two major US orders worth over €12m

28 Jan 2019

Recently-acquired Canadian engineering firm Prodmax gains contracts with General Motors and another auto parts maker.

Prodomax Automation, a member of the Jenoptik Group, has won two new orders together worth more than €12 million in North America, underlining a strong order entry start in 2019.

It was in mid-2018 that Jenoptik acquired Prodomax, a specialized industrial engineering firm that focuses on machine integration and process automation in the automotive industry, located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

Prodomax employs about 180 staff and specializes in process automation for the automotive industry. At the time of the acquisition, as reported by optics.org, Jenoptik said it was strengthening its position as a full-service turnkey provider of complex automated manufacturing solutions.

Jenoptik started along this path with the acquisition of Five Lakes Automation in 2017, which also became a part of Jenoptik Group’s Global Laser Processing business. Its Light & Production division has long been a player in the automotive market offering various laser processing technologies.

Advanced manufacturing

With Prodomax’s experience in engineering and integrating complex turn-key automation equipment, Jenoptik now offers more advanced manufacturing solutions. The company commented that this has resulted in these latest successful new orders.

The first order is from a major Tier 1 automotive client (unnamed) for two of their manufacturing plants located in the southern United States. The scope of supply includes several assembly lines incorporating state-of-the-art material processing and material handling solutions. The second order is for an assembly project to be delivered and commissioned in mid-2019 for a production increase on a successful General Motors program.

Prodomax and the Jenoptik automation business, which is located in Rochester Hills (MI), have already collaborated on engineering technical solutions for their combined customer base. The automation experience of Prodomax and the laser processing expertise of Jenoptik together facilitate end-to-end application solutions in the North American automotive supply marketplace.
