Job Description

Nikon has an open position for a PhD level candidate to join our highly talented optical design team in Oro Valley/Tucson, Arizona, developing optical engineering solutions to a variety of problems. As a research and development arm of Nikon Corporation, Nikon Research Corporation of America (NRCA), based in Belmont California, is involved in developing technologies for most of Nikon business units including semiconductor lithography, flat panel display lithography, imaging products, industrial metrology, and medical businesses.

Job Requirements

Candidate background:   A PhD in the field of Optics with 5-10 years of experience in optical sciences or a related field.

Additional background and experience:

  • Thorough understanding of geometrical and physical optics
  • Strong undergraduate level background in mathematics and physics
  • Proven ability and interest in building experimental and special purpose optical systems
  • Proven ability and interest in creative modeling of optical systems
  • Experience using optical design and modeling software such as FRED, ASAP, LightTools, CODEV, Zemax, RSoft, etc.
  • Experience using high level programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or Mathematica
  • Some experience programming with lower level languages such as C/C++
  • Good communication skills, particularly in the area of preparing and delivering presentations on a weekly to daily basis
