Job Description

Manages all aspects of manufacturing within the Sapphire Fabrication Department.  The manager will be the key person responsible for production operations within Sapphire grind, polish, inspection, shaping and assembly operations, including production planning, expense budgeting, personnel staffing, training, and motivating; organizing, budgeting, storage, handling and management of raw, WIP and finished inventory; schedule adherence, quality assurance, and cost reduction actions.  Directs Sapphire production human, material and production resources and activities in support of production schedules, cost reduction and new process development requirements.  Coordinates with Production Planning and Control Department to assure on time, responsive deliveries.  Maintains strong customer awareness and assists in Sapphire estimating process.  Assists and participates in the development of new processes and their transition into production.

The primary metrics associated with this job assignment are product quality, on time delivery, shop order efficiency, utilization, staff turn-over, expense control, and overall cost reduction.  The production manager is responsible for consolidating information and reporting metrics in support of business management requirements.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

Education:

B. S. Industrial Eng., Production Management, or an Optics related field or related science preferred or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

Minimum 8 years related optical technology manufacturing experience in a job shop and military/aerospace industry environment, with 5 years management experience including oversight of operating personnel to the technician level.

Skills/Knowledge:

1.      Working knowledge of manufacturing standards including ISO 9000 and Lean Six Sigma.

2.      Demonstrated ability for leadership, technology development and transfer support, business development in a changing environment, while maintaining a participative management style.

3.      Proven skills and capabilities in technical problem solving, including experience in carrying process design projects from concept and development to production. 

4.      Communicates well at all levels, directs training needs and leads others in setting and achieving goals.

5.      Clearable to Secret Level.
