The foundation of Gooch & Housego's business is crystals, and the humble Q-switch used to generate high-energy laser pulses. Until recently, the company's key market was industrial laser systems and in 2008 this sector accounted for 77% of revenues. After diversifying into other applications, that proportion fell to 52% in 2010, and is likely to fall further with the latest acquisitions. Credit: Gooch & Housego. |
