Eastman Kodak has licensed its small-molecule organic LED (OLED) technology to Optrex Corporation of Japan.
Said Leslie Polgar, president of Kodak Displays: "This agreement further confirms that the Kodak display medium is uniquely suited for additional electronic-display applications. Kodak's novel patented technology, combined with Optrex's strength in the design and manufacture of high-tech electronic products, is a further step towards establishing OLED technology as the worldwide standard for advanced displays."
The royalty-bearing licence to Optrex covers use of passive-matrix OLED technology in a variety of flat-panel applications. The agreement also allows Optrex to purchase Kodak OLED materials.
Optrex manufactures a wide range of LCD products for mobile phone companies, automotive instrument and car audio manufacturers, measurement equipment companies and PDA manufacturers.
Kodak's other licensees include Denso, eMagin, Opsys (which is also working on rival polymer technology), Pioneer and Sanyo.
