Bookham Technology, a developer of integrated optical components, has reported fourth quarter sales down 82% to GBP 2.1 million (USD 3.1 million) year-on-year. Total revenues for 2001 have slumped to GBP 21.9 million (USD 32 million), a 17% decrease from last year.
US company
Phosistor Technologies has received USD 1 million from venture capitalist
meVC Draper Fisher Jurvetson, US. The manufacturer of photonic integrated circuits now plans to further its low-cost approach to active and passive component integration onto a single chip.
Emcore, a US-based manufacturer of semiconductor technologies, is set to buy the applied solar division of fellow US company
Tecstar. The USD 21 million deal will make Emcore one of the world's largest independent solar panel integrators.
Emcore has also announced a net loss of USD 17.7 million over the recently completed quarter but anticipates revenues will rise 15 - 20% sequentially in the next quarter.
US-based active photonic component developer
VSK Photonics is to receive USD 8.3 million from the venture capitalist group
Rustic Canyon, also of the US. Having attracted a total of USD 26.3 million since March 2001, the company is gearing up to bring its products to market in 2002.
US developer of indium phosphide (InP) active components,
CyOptics, has opened a wafer manufacturing facility in Yokneam, Israel. Costing USD 10 million, the plant will make high-performance InP-based lasers, modulators and detectors.
