  • Proximion Fiber Optics, US, has secured USD 10 million in its second round of funding. The advanced fiber bragg grating supplier will used these funds to increase production and expand an international sales operation.

  • Sweden-based Micronic Laser Systems has announced a third quarter sales drop of 37% but a 25% increase in orders compared to the same period last year. The manufacturer of laser pattern generators has also seen employee numbers rise by 65 to 325 since last year.

  • US-based DuPont and Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), UK, have joined forces to advance the commercialization of light-emitting polymers (LEPs). DuPont will receive a non-exclusive licence to CDT's technology.

  • US fiber-optics start-up Scion Photonics has scored USD 33 million in its latest funding round. Led by its new chief executive James Fultz, the company expects to close the round at USD 60 million in November of this year.

  • At USD 49.2 million, US-based Spectra-Physics has announced that third quarter sales are up 7% from the same time last year. "The strength of our technology, products and customer base has enabled us to sustain this level of growth," said Patrick Edsell, chief executive of Spectra-Physics.
