17 Jun 2002

Two acquisitions consolidate Flextronics's photonics outsourcing strategy

Electronics manufacturing services provider Flextronics has announced the acquisition of companies Wave Optics and Fico Fiber Optics. These acquisitions, coupled with the expansion of Flextronics's existing optical capabilities, will strengthen the firm's position as a major player in the business of photonic outsourcing, claims the company.

Wave Optics focuses on the design, manufacturing and packaging of optical subcomponents and devices for the DWDM, SONET and Gigabit Ethernet markets. Fico Fiber Optics concentrates on product industrialization and manufacturing of advanced optical modules, electro-optical modules and passive optical components for leading telecoms and datacoms product companies.

"We are building the most technologically comprehensive service offering in photonics and optics and are uniquely positioned to fully capitalize on the explosive growth in optical networking," stated Ron Keith, vice-president and general manager of Flextronics Photonics.
