17 Jun 2002

US-based Sanders, an electronic systems subsidiary of the aerospace giant Lockheed-Martin, is to create a new company based on its optical communications technology.

The new company is called TeraConnect and comprises a core team of former Sanders employees to design, develop and integrate its optical and high-speed optoelectronic devices.

According to Sanders, the technology "represents a dramatic breakthrough in the speed and volume of data transfer in telecommunications, computing and Internet applications".

The venture is backed by investors that include Goldman Sachs, Kodiak Venture Partners and Spectrum Equity Investors.
